My Project is an illustrated poem called "Eye's Half Closed". I would describe it as a surreal poem, where each segment can be connected and visualized like a dream. There is no linear narrative, as each scene was conceived from a different thought.
The same can be said about the illustrated parts. Each drawn excerpt was created in a different fashion, and in relation to the written parts. Each drawing was done in an improvised, spontaneous, unplanned and stream-of-consciousness fueled process. Due to the fact that the drawings don’t link to the written portions in a linear sense, I would like to say that the end result is a strange trip, where logic is not a leading component.
Artists who’ve influenced me during the creation of this project include people from different mediums, from music to visual arts. Even though the process of making the drawings was done in a spontaneous manner, the overall appearance of the illustrations was influenced by psychedelic artists from the 60s, from Robert Crumb to Rick Griffin.
The strange nature of the written portions was influenced by artists from the Surrealist movement, who would illustrate and write works that were influenced by dreams, distorted world views and imagery inspired by a stream of consciousness process.
The unplanned aspect of the creation of the illustrations, linked with the dream-like nature of each scene adds to the fact that there is no real theme or subject associated with the end result.
